MUFY results are out!

11:06 PM

And I got all HD (High Distinction, not High Density, mind you.)!!! Yay!

The results were kinda unexpected, in both the good way and bad way.

The good way is Maths. I had a huge problem in solving problems related to Combination and Permutation. During the finals, there were 2 such questions, and I actually surrendered to them. I didn't leave the question blank of course, but I do not have confidence that the answers I'd scribbled on the paper makes sense to the person marking my paper. It definitely made sense to me, or else I wouldn't be writing the formulas and workings. The moment the students were asked to leave the exam hall, everyone was discussing the same 2 questions that I had struggled to answer. My workings made no sense to anyone, and no ones workings made sense to me so that's it.

There goes 10 marks.

But surprisingly, I got 90 for Maths, including internal marks I supposed. Thanks to Ms Jessey for this!

The bad way is English. I'd never been satisfied with the level of English I have now, especially in terms of writing. I'm not good in using bombastic words to fill my paper, but one thing I'm good at is making my essay easy to read and understand. My grammar is pretty weak too, you can probably read it in my blog. My second problem is pronunciation. I'm famous for pronouncing words wrongly in my family, sometimes it even became a family joke, where everyone is laughing except for me.
Anyway, I got 86 for English. Yes yes I know it's considered high (relatively speaking), already HD still want to rant ah?

Yes, I want to rant cannot ah. Like I previously posted, Sem 2 English is not easy to score. My goal was 90 and above, but what to do. It's probably because of my internal score. I didn't do very well in my information report because according to my lecturer, I did not use "bombastic words" and "wrong referencing format". I agreed on the wrong referencing format, I checked on the content of my work but I forgot about the reference part. But bombastic words? :(

Okay. Reality hit me like a wrecking ball dy, I cannot say I don't want to accept.

In the end, Economics and Accounting was pretty high (in my view). I got 92 for Econs, this one I very happy already. Then, Accounting I got 89, which in my opinion also quite good. I'm not the mathematics, numerical kind of person. So, I struggle a lot in handling numbers to the point my roommate never wanted me to help her calculate how much discount she will get after purchasing a basket of stationary in Popular Bookstore. That one long story lah okay.

So, that's about it! I'm going on for my first year in Monash Uni soon in July ^^

    1. Hello! Haha thanks ^^

There is only one restaurant in Sun U residence, but it's handled by chinese, HOWEVER, there are signs in the restaurants that mentioned the food served are halal. But how true I'm not sure tho, I'm sorry I can't be much help on this ><!

Inside sunway campus, there are a few mini booths that are handled by malays, you can go check them out. Some of their food are amazing, hehe.. But there are not open at night.

Maybe you can go Sunway pyramid, or outside of pyramid there are a few malay restaurant :)

I hope this helps! And enjoy your MUFY year~ ^^

    1. From what I know with my current Muslim friends, it's either they cook their meals, usually dinner, in their room with rice cooker or any convenient cooker technology (technology nowadays, u know lah a lot of new stuffs). I actually have a friend that cooked meals using electronic stove, she secretly brought the whole set into her room. You are actually not allowed to cook in SunU, so do it discreetly hehe

My Muslims friends whom I met in MUFY, they either dine outside, dabao or eat in the caferia in SunU. There is also a convenience store in SunU but impossible you buy and eat the unhealthy food all the time. So, I guess it's gonna be harder for you guys :( I'm sorry about that.

If you prefer to go for low cost meals like me, I usually eat a heavy breakfast, eat a little for lunch like maybe just bao, or noodles. Then dinner I usually cook simple meals, like maggi, scrambled eggs, hot dogs, etc. Not healthy ahaha i know. But when I'm lazy, i just make myself some oat :)

Everytime u go for grocery shopping, buy as much nutritious stuffs as possible! Yoghurt, oats, fruits, veggies... carrying it back to sun u maybe a little hard so bring a backpack so that you can stuff the food in ur bag, not one shot lah, i mean like to lighten the load on ur hands ^^

      Hope this helps!

    1. Hello there! I've few questions to direct to u regardin mufy placement tests.
      Math
      1),wht topics does it covers?
      2)is it obj/subj?
      3)calculator must b allowed right?
4)is it provided for list of formulas?
      5)how many questions usually?

      Eng
1)if it's essay, wht kind of essay is it?

I think tht's for now. Tq in advance!

    2. Hi! Hmm... that's actually a rather tough question because I don't recall much. I remember the test was just to test the students whether they fail or passed, we were not given back the papers and know our score. Unless you failed the paper, there will be a special maths class for you.

      Maths:
      1) I remembered it's mainly like SPM Mathematics, a little bit of Add maths like the triangles, and finding x.
      2) It's objective. I dont recall subjective but they may change the system.
      3) Calculator is allowed :D
      4) I don't think they provided the formulas, but I may be wrong, because I remembered I did not check the last page of the entire test paper. So, it could be there, but the formula paper won't be SPM like.
      5) How many questions ah... haha... seriously forgot, more than 35, if not mistaken. But I'm sure it's less than 50.

      Eng
      1) It's essay only. If not mistaken there was comprehension and an essay. The essay revolves around controversial topics, you get to choose the question too, I THINK. Omg, this terrible memory I have. Nevertheless, I remembered my question is something about homework and studies :) I hope this helps!

Don't worry too much of the placement test, it's just to filter out those that failed so that they can be given special intensive classes in order for them to pass MUFY :)

  4. Hello, I will take MUFY this august. what score do I need to apply scholarship for Monash University?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi! If not mistaken, you need to get a high average, that means HD in all units, but if you really want to secure that, you need to score at least 90 per unit for both sems :)

      Good luck!

    2. How many friends of yours who get scholarship to Monash Uni? And how are their score in MUFY? I'll take Electrical and Computer System Engineering in Monash Uni

    3. Hello! Sorry for reply so late.

There were a total of 10 students who got the award. And their average scores are all well over 90 @@. The award doesnt apply to those that takes medicines, pharmacy and certain engineering courses which I'm not too sure (so sorry because I returned the letter to monash already). But I think it applies for the course you are taking ;)

    4. Can I use the scholarship (if I get it in monash) in monash aus if I want to study there in my 3rd year? If I cant use it, how can I get a scholarship there from monash malaysia?

    5. Hi! I think what you meant is about the transfer programme? And no, you cant use the scholarship to get into Monash Uni Aus.

I dont think there is a scholarship to aus tho, at least I did not heard of any here in monash. Maybe you can send monash uni msia an email to enquire? :)

  5. Hi! I'll be joining MUFY in Jan 2016. To be honest, I'm slightly terrified (I'm an international student and not very good at making friends ha ha) and I was wondering if you could tell me a little bit about the general environment over there? Are there a lot of international students? Are the teachers friendly?

    1. Hey! Sorry I was so busy I didnt checked my blog, I'm sorry to have you hanging for so long :(

Generally, Sunway Uni is a nice place. Though I'm not too sure whether the environment can be considered as good because I'm speaking as a local here, so I'm not too sure about the standards. In terms of staying in hostel, the rental fees are actually considered kinda high in Malaysia. But generally, you wont be worried about having not enough food because there are a number of shops nearby.

For MUFY, there isnt many international students. But there are quite a few from other courses :) The teachers are very friendly, but some of them are sometimes unfriendly in certain ways.

I would like to give more advice or help in this but I had never went studying overseas before, so I don't really know what kind of standards or preferences internationally.

Overall, I'm sure you will enjoy it here :) Though I cannot generalize that people here are always good >< Good luck!

    2. Thank you so much for replying. Can you tell me anything about Sun-U residence? That's where I plan to stay. I've tried finding pictures of the rooms and living conditions online but I could only find pictures of the building from the outside :( anyway sorry for bothering you again!! your reply really helped me a lot :)

    3. Hello! Im sorry for replying late again, I was busy with finals.

Sun U residence is a nice place to stay with. But the thing is that, they are gonna raise up the rental from RM 780 per month for air conditioned room to RM830 in 2016. Plus, they are currently removing the washing machines in each units and will be practicing laundry service. The laundry service will be commenced in 2016 as well, and you can only wash your clothes of 5kg and get it back after 3 days.

Living condition is okay, there is a restaurant at the ground floor which is not recommended because of high price and terrible food. What I meant by terrible food is that there is not much vegetables and a few pieces of meats which a plate can cost a minimum of RM 6-7. For most plates, the price is RM8.

To compare SunU with the new Nadayu residence, SunU is still better because there is a really huge swimming pool (if you swim haha), a canopy walk that connects to Sunway uni, monash uni and sunway pyramid (more safety), strict security, relatively slight lower rental than Nadayu (if you share rooms it will definitely be cheaper).
Nadayu have washing machine and dryer for each unit, BUT it depends on what agent you get. Whether you need to pay for washing machines or not. And the air conditioner also will be paid using hourly basis (also depends on what agent you get).

Nadayu is better than SunU because they are new. Hahaha.. The really turn off thing about Nadayu is that at night, there isnt any street lamp and the building is not directly connected to any canopy walks ( which is safer). Unless you are okay with walking in the dark and high chance of your safety being breached, then yes, Nadayu might be better than Sun U :)

SunU overall is not bad to stay. Its just the hike in price and removing the washing machine makes me sore since I need to stay for another 3 years there :/ For someone who exercise a lot, a washing machine is kinda like my best friend hahaha

    1. Hello! Haha thank you >< I'm glad to help :)
I only know a few Singaporeans studying MUFY, but not a lot. And there was one that contacted me on Facebook to ask about MUFY too, so you are not alone, no worries.
Yup, its very common to stay in hostel :) There is a few choices of hostel to stay here in Sunway area, but I have to admit its getting pricey ><

Honestly, I did not saw any softball/baseball clubs or activities in Sunway College or Monash. I'm sorry about that.

Oh, and I'm studying in Monash University which is kinda near to Sunway College in Subang area (KL).

      Hope my comment help! :D
